FAQs & PRINT HANDLING ADVICE

WHO PRINTS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS?

I use an award winning fine art printing company here in Scotland to provide the best quality products possible.

Your prints will be archival quality Giclee prints. Giclee prints use specialist archival pigment inks with an exceptional depth of colour and longevity. Giclee prints are widely accepted by artists, galleries and museums as archival, collectable pieces.

WHAT PAPER DO YOU USE FOR YOUR PRINTS?

My Giclee prints are printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper. These papers are archival quality, acid-free and have a longevity of over 100 years. Each collection is printed on a Hahnemühle paper chosen to enhance the image quailties.

In addition, to the quality of their products, Hahnemühle´s sustainable and responsible paper production is incomparable. Hahnemuehle papers are vegan. As early as 1965, Hahnemühle were the first paper manufacturer to produce exclusively vegan artists' papers. They do not use animal glues or other animal substrates in their papers.

CAN I BUY A DIGITAL IMAGE INSTEAD OF A PRINT?

Not usually, No. I only sell digital files to commercial clients or for commercial commisions. Please contact me to discuss a digital licensing agreement.

WHAT IS A LIMITED-EDITION OR OPEN-EDITION PRINT?

Limited edition refers to the number of prints available for each print at a particular size.
For example, if a print has 50 editions available, no more will be produced and sold when it sells out. This adds value to the print and makes it more collectable. In addition to the limited number, I keep 2 artist prints for my own collection.

Open editions have no limit to the number of prints that could be printed and sold.

CAN I HANDLE THE PRINT WHEN IT ARRIVES?

Unless you are framing your print yourself, and have experience of framing techniques, it is highly recommended that you avoid handling the print. Even with the utmost care, you could mark it before it is protected by the frame. Take it to a professional or use special gloves for handling artwork.

To ensure the longevity of your prints, consider the following tips:

  • Handle with care: Hold the print by the edges with two hands to provide proper support.

  • Avoid touching the surface: Refrain from touching the print surface with your fingers, as this may cause scratches, and the oils from your skin can harm the print.

  • Keep away from liquids: Prevent any liquids from coming into contact with the print.

  • Use archival materials: Only use acid-free, archival materials in contact with the front/back of the print.

  • Optimal framing: Frame under glass or acrylic for the best protection against UV light and ozone. Non-reflective glass, such as Artglass or UltraVue, is recommended.

  • Sunlight exposure: Avoid hanging or storing prints in direct or extremely bright indirect sunlight.

  • Temperature & humidity: Avoid extreme temperature and humidity conditions.

  • Correct hanging: Before framing, refrain from pinning or hanging prints directly on walls, as chemicals in wall paint, especially solvents, can potentially damage the print.
